Who we are
Catherine Hudson and Dr. Sharon N. Hughes are educators and researchers whose collaborative work explores identity, representation, and cultural production in fashion and beauty. Hudson, a British fashion designer and lecturer, investigates Caribbean diasporic identity and cultural displacement in the UK through innovative, practice-led design. Her work blends theoretical insight with experimental 3D fashion prototypes that challenge traditional formats and offer new ways to tell personal and collective stories. She uses fashion as a platform for social commentary, encouraging experiential learning and self-expression in the classroom.
Dr. Hughes is a marketing scholar specializing in diversity, inclusion, and the representation of Black women in fashion and beauty. With over 20 years of teaching experience across international institutions—including the University of East London and London College of Fashion—her research spans digital marketing, brand culture, and the politics of Black female identity. Her work has been featured in The Conversation, Stylist Magazine, and Critical Studies in Fashion and Beauty. A hip hop enthusiast, Hughes brings an interdisciplinary lens that merges marketing, critical fashion studies, and digital culture to inspire innovation among emerging scholars.
Together, they explore the power of visual storytelling and challenge dominant narratives by centering underrepresented voices within fashion’s global discourse.
